Detroit-born designer Anna Sui knew she wanted to be a fashion designer at age four. After studying at Parsons School of Design and spending time designing sportswear, Sui launched her eponymous fashion line in 1980 and in 1991, she staged her first runway show. Inspired by everything from Victorian Cowboys to Warhol superstars, the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award winner’s designs are eclectic and exuberant, mixing feminine, vintage-inspired styles with a rock-and-roll edge.
Designer Elie Tahari, who grew up in an Israeli orphanage and famously made his way to New York City with less than $100 in his pocket, began his first line with flirty dance dresses in the ’70s and decade-defining tailored suits in the ’80s. Today, Tahari continues to evolve and delight women with opulent fabrics, subtle textures and unexpected details, offering a modern sophistication. And staying true to his belief that “clothing should be quieter than the women so that her true beauty can shine through.”
Launched in 1992 by the late designer Lee Alexander McQueen, this English fashion house gained a reputation for its dramatic, unconventional creations that combine elements of French couture with British tailoring. In the years since its founding, the award-winning label has added menswear, shoes, accessories and fragrances, and, in 2006, introduced a diffusion line called McQ. Since McQueen’s death in 2010, designer Sarah Burton has taken over as the house’s Creative Director, gaining acclaim for her singular vision and commitment to upholding McQueen’s aesthetic.
Marc Jacobs was born in New York City in 1963. A graduate of the Parsons School of Design, Marc Jacobs’ original collections were based on simple concepts: a love for fashion and a commitment to quality. Those same principles remain the cornerstones of Marc Jacobs designs today. Marc Jacobs’ collections now include women’s , men’s and kids clothing, shoes, fragrance, eyewear, watches and home accessories.
In the late 1800’s, Dana Buxton lost his keys through a hole in his pants pocket. As a result, his wife Julia made him a small leather pouch to hold his keys. Family and friends learned about these pouches and wanted them, too. And due to the popularity of that small leather design, Buxton Company came to life. After over 100 years of making Key-Trainers, wallets, clutches, classic Dopp kits and more, Buxton launched a line of luxurious handbags, some of which you’ll discover here.
In 1947, Repetto started by exclusively crafting ballet shoes. The line has since expanded to include a number of styles inspired by demi-pointe dance shoes and a ballerina’s grace. The elegant ballet styles the brand offers are both versatile and sturdy, made from materials like patent leather and suede.
