In 1950, Jean Goldberg opened a custom tailor shop on Rue Paradis in Nice, France. By 1958, the small shop was making custom tuxedos for Hollywood stars attending the annual Cannes Film Festival. In 1961, Goldberg's son took over the business and renamed it, Façonnable, a variation of the word "Façonner," which means "to create." The company expanded throughout the 1970s and 1980s in Europe and the US and, in 1995, added its first women's clothing and accessories lines. Today, the label continues to create tailored, sophisticated styles for men and women.
